Eight primary fields organise the publishing programme without creating duplicate subject sections for the same work. Editors assign one principal field to each book and use keywords to describe interdisciplinary connections.
Humanities and Social Sciences
History, geography, philosophy, sociology, education, psychology, language, literature, linguistics, translation, media, arts, archaeology and heritage. This field applies where the principal question concerns human, cultural or educational phenomena; specialist economic or legal analysis belongs in its corresponding field.
Business and Economics
Management, business administration, economics, accounting, finance, banking, marketing and entrepreneurship. Classification follows the central contribution: organisational management or economic policy belongs here, while the technical development of a computing system belongs in Engineering and Computing even when used in a business setting.
Law and Political Science
Legal scholarship, political systems, public policy, international relations and diplomatic studies. Primarily doctrinal Islamic jurisprudence belongs in Islamic Studies, while legal comparison, legislation and political-institutional analysis are placed here according to their main focus.
Islamic Studies
Qur’anic and Hadith studies, Islamic jurisprudence and legal theory, theology, Islamic thought and maqasid studies. A historical or literary work is not automatically placed here merely because it concerns an Islamic context; the research question, method and principal discipline determine its classification.
Basic Sciences
Mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry and fundamental biological sciences. Work concerned with principles and scientific models is distinguished from engineering applications or clinical practice. Applied context is considered alongside, rather than substituted for, the main scholarly contribution.
Engineering and Computing
Engineering disciplines, computing, software, communications, artificial intelligence and digital technologies. Work developing a technical model, method or system belongs here. Research into the social consequences or economic management of technology is assigned according to its principal question.
Medical and Health Sciences
Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, laboratory sciences, public health and allied health disciplines. Scientific presentation should make the nature of evidence and limits of inference clear, without turning catalogue descriptions or publicity into individual clinical advice.
Agriculture and Environment
Agricultural sciences, natural resources, water, food systems, environmental studies, biodiversity and environmental sustainability. Interdisciplinary works belong here where the agricultural or environmental question predominates, with supporting topics recorded as keywords.
Classifying interdisciplinary books
Where several fields are relevant, classification considers the book’s purpose, method, readership and principal disciplinary contribution. The decision is recorded in its metadata rather than assigned at random to several categories. Authors may suggest a field; the final editorial assignment rests with the press.
