Publishing services

HomePublishing services

From manuscript to publication: integrated services that address scholarly value, production detail, author rights and presentation to readers. The agreed services, timetable, costs and deliverables are set out in the project agreement before work begins.

Proposal assessment and manuscript development

We examine the concept, disciplinary contribution, contents, intended readership and stage of completion. Recommendations may address chapter order, scope, the relationship between the introduction and conclusions, or the adaptation of a thesis into a book that can be read independently of its examination context.

Authors receive an outline of the proposed workflow and the materials required. Developmental support does not involve inventing findings or references, replacing the researcher’s contribution or guaranteeing acceptance. Its purpose is to strengthen presentation and make the scholarly argument more explicit.

Scholarly assessment and peer-review management

Where the publication route requires specialist review, we coordinate assessment with attention to reviewer expertise, confidentiality and competing interests. Comments are consolidated for the author, and responses and revisions are considered before a decision is made. The review model applied to each project is explained explicitly; a work is not described as peer reviewed unless it has completed the relevant process.

Copyediting and language review

We review spelling, punctuation, terminology, headings and cross-references at a level appropriate to the discipline. Necessary corrections are distinguished from extensive rewriting, and substantive changes are referred to the author to preserve their voice and responsibility for meaning. Arabic and English texts are edited according to their respective conventions, including scientific names, symbols and equations.

Authorised academic translation

Translation services cover the agreed text, terminology review, abstracts and bibliographic material. Where the source work belongs to another rights holder, translation rights must be established. The scope, language pair, terminology resources and approval process are agreed in advance. Unreviewed machine output is not presented as a final scholarly translation.

Typesetting, tables and indexing

We establish a consistent typographic hierarchy for chapters, notes and references, and organise pagination, contents, tables and figures without compromising equations or symbols. Typesetting includes page continuity, spacing and running heads, followed by proofs for review before printing. Required deliverables, such as print-ready or screen-optimised PDFs and agreed editable files, are defined in the project scope.

Cover design and publication identity

Cover design responds to the book’s subject, character and readership, with careful checking of the title, author name, imprint, spine and back-cover text. Visual materials must be authorised, and typography is checked both at thumbnail size and in print. Title information is set as verifiable text rather than left as distorted lettering within a generated image.

ISBN, legal deposit and metadata

We coordinate ISBN allocation and the procedures for obtaining a legal-deposit number from the National Library and Archives in Baghdad in accordance with the applicable requirements. We also prepare the copyright page and bibliographic record. Identifiers are printed only after issue and verification against the title, edition and format. These procedures are distinct from peer review or recognition for academic promotion, each of which has its own authorities and criteria.

Print production and digital editions

Trim size, paper, binding, colour and print quantity are agreed with the author, and a final proof is approved before production. A digital edition may be prepared for viewing, reading or delivery under the agreed rights. Manuscripts submitted through the website are not automatically published, and full-text access is provided only with explicit authorisation.

Presentation, promotion, distribution and fairs

We organise a book page containing the cover, synopsis, author information, bibliographic details and ordering or reading options, and prepare material suitable for the press’s communication channels. Depending on the agreement, promotion may include outreach to interested institutions, library contact and display at events and fairs within the press’s confirmed programme.

Distribution arrangements, target territories, delivery, author copies and any royalties or discounts are discussed for each edition. Participation in a particular fair depends on its schedule, permissions, stand arrangements and distribution logistics. Specific commitments belong in the publication plan rather than in a blanket promise to attend every fair.

A clear proposal before commitment

Books have different needs, so a service proposal follows an examination of the concept, length, language and condition of the manuscript. It specifies inclusions, exclusions, revision rounds, deliverables, payments and the treatment of additional changes. Authors may request clarification of any item before approval.
