Borsippa House for Publishing and Academic Studies is an Iraqi scholarly publishing enterprise. We place knowledge at the centre of our work and offer authors an editorial partnership that extends from the development of an idea to the life of a book among its readers, with an outlook that embraces Arab and international academic communities.
Our identity: Iraqi roots, international horizons
We approach publishing as a scholarly and cultural responsibility, not simply the conversion of a manuscript into printed pages. Borsippa combines respect for intellectual heritage with openness to contemporary methods and questions, and combines close attention to the text with considered design and accessible presentation.
We welcome proposals from authors, researchers and academics. Our publishing programme encompasses specialist books, edited volumes, university references, authorised translations, conference proceedings and research studies. Each project follows a pathway appropriate to its discipline, readership and purpose, rather than a single model imposed on every manuscript.
Our vision
Our vision is to provide a publishing environment worthy of authors’ and readers’ trust: one that brings Iraqi and Arab scholarship into wider circulation and fosters intellectual connections across geographical and linguistic boundaries. We assess our contribution through the value of our books, the clarity of our commitments to authors and the consistency of our editorial standards.
Our mission
We accompany scholarly work from the initial proposal to an approved edition through editorial assessment, specialist review where applicable, language editing, typesetting and design, followed by bibliographic preparation, production, availability and promotion under a clear agreement. This includes structured communication, version control and author involvement in proof review and final approval.
Our purpose is not merely to increase the number of titles. It is to develop coherent books with transparent authorship, reliable metadata and a defined readership. We therefore distinguish the acceptance of a proposal from a final publication decision, and editorial services from the scholarly findings for which authors remain responsible.
Values in practice
Originality means recognising a meaningful contribution and respecting the work of others. Integrity means accurate attribution, disclosure of competing interests and an unequivocal rejection of plagiarism or fabricated data. Quality brings together sound argument, clear language, consistent terminology, accurate tables and references, and meticulous production.
We uphold transparent agreements, the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts and communication that respects researchers’ time. We value intellectual plurality and distinguish legitimate scholarly disagreement from breaches of rights or research ethics. We do not promise favourable review outcomes, institutional recognition or guaranteed readership before the relevant independent decisions have been made.
An integrated publishing team
Our work brings together editorial management, specialist assessment, language editing, translation, design and typesetting, production, metadata management and distribution. Responsibilities are defined at each stage, and authors receive actionable feedback rather than a fragmented sequence of disconnected messages or uncontrolled document versions.
The Scientific Council contributes advice on publishing priorities and review standards while remaining distinct from day-to-day management. Member names and affiliations are displayed only after formal appointment and consent. Names or logos are not used to imply undocumented partnerships.
Who we work with
We welcome first-time authors alongside established scholars, volume editors, universities, research centres and conference organisers. Our conversation begins with the subject, intended audience and stage of completion, before a suitable service or publication route is proposed. Authors are not expected to accept an unsuitable package simply to begin a discussion.
Give your idea a clear publishing pathway
Use “Publish with us” to submit an independent book proposal, or “Collective volumes” to select an announced call or propose a new edited project. Our author guide and publishing services explain the process before submission, while a private tracking link supports subsequent correspondence and revisions.
